Askadelia's Lair II

October 2007

This image was made for SCI FI's Infinate OZ project. The image depicts the heart of Askadelia's sun eating machine. Conceptually I was challenged to make a massive sun eating machine which would take the sun and store it in several canisters around the central machine.

The image was concieved under really tight deadlines, and executed in about a week and a half. While the image appears to be 2d it is actually done mostly in maya. Since we had such a short amount of time to do the image texture maps could not be created for all the geometry in the scenes. We instead opted to make all the models in maya and then create an ambient occlusion pass from those models. After the pass was made we could the texture it in photoshop, and use the AO pass as a multiply layer.

The foreground geometry was made by Rudolf Herczog http://www.rochr.com/

The canister peices, the initial color concept, and the wires were made by Seth Olson http://setholson.com/

The image inisde the porthole was done by:

The Maya wire script we used was made by Andrew Closson
